XML Validator: Check XML Is Well-Formed (Line and Column of Errors)

Paste XML from a sitemap, feed, invoice export or config file to check it is well-formed. Errors show the line and column with the likely cause; valid files get a summary of the root, elements, attributes and namespaces.

How to use the xml validator

  1. Paste your code or text.
  2. The result and any errors appear as you type.
  3. Copy or download the result.

Good to know

  • For a Blogger theme, check the whole theme.xml before uploading: one unclosed tag stops the upload.

Questions

Does it check against a schema (XSD)?

No. It checks that the XML is well-formed: every tag closed, properly nested and correctly escaped. Schema rules need a separate validator.

Why is “&” an error?

In XML a bare & starts a code like &. Write & for an ampersand, or put the text inside a CDATA section.

Is my data private?

Yes. Everything happens inside your own browser: nothing you type or choose is uploaded to us or anyone else.

Is it free?

Completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many times you use it. Light ads keep the site running.
