Explore our solar system. The eight planets travel round the Sun at their own speeds (Mercury zooms, Neptune crawls) on a starry map you can tap. Each planet card shows its distance from the Sun, size, the length of its day and year, its moons, and how many minutes sunlight takes to reach it (about 8 minutes for Earth). Type your weight to see what you would weigh on the Moon, Mars or Jupiter, then test yourself with the space quiz.
loading toolHow to explore the solar system
- Tap a planet on the map or below it to see its facts.
- Press Pause to stop the planets moving.
- Open My weight and type your weight in kilograms.
- Play the Quiz to test what you learnt.
Good to know
- Pluto is now called a dwarf planet, so it is not one of the eight, but its weight is still in the list.
- Light travels about 300,000 km every second, the fastest thing there is.
Questions
Is the picture to scale?
No. If the planets were drawn to scale they would be too tiny to see, and Neptune would be dozens of screens away. Speeds are in the right order but much faster than real life.
Why would I weigh less on the Moon?
Weight is how hard gravity pulls you. The Moon’s gravity is about one sixth of Earth’s, so a 30 kg child would weigh about 5 kg there, even though their body stays the same.
Why do the moon counts say “more than”?
Astronomers keep finding new small moons around the giant planets, so exact numbers change often. Saturn and Jupiter each have well over 90.
Is my data private?
Yes. Everything happens inside your own browser: nothing you type or choose is uploaded to us or anyone else.
Is it free?
Completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many times you use it. Light ads keep the site running.
