Sight words are the small words that appear on almost every page (the, said, was, where) and are best recognised at a glance. This tool has all 220 words of the classic Dolch lists, from pre-K to grade 3. Each flashcard is read aloud; tap “I know it” to move a word to the known pile or “Again later” to see it again soon. Progress for each level is saved on your device, and a listening quiz asks your child to find the word they hear.

Questions
Why is there no sound?
Sounds use the speech voices built into your phone or computer. Turn the volume up and check silent mode. If one language stays silent, your device has no voice for it yet: on Android add it in Settings → Text-to-speech, on iPhone in Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices, on Windows in Settings → Time & language → Speech.
What are the Dolch words?
A list of 220 very common English words put together by Edward Dolch in the 1930s, grouped by school year. Together they make up more than half of the words in typical children’s books.
How many words a day should we practise?
Five to ten new words, plus a quick look at known ones. Short daily sessions work better than long ones.
Is progress shared between devices?
No. Known words are saved only in this browser on this device. Use the same device each time, or press Reset to start fresh.
Is my data private?
Yes. Everything happens inside your own browser: nothing you type or choose is uploaded to us or anyone else.
Is it free?
Completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many times you use it. Light ads keep the site running.
