Screen Light: Turn Your Screen Into a Torch (Any Colour)

No torch to hand? Turn your phone, tablet or laptop screen into a soft light. Pick white for reading or finding something under the sofa, warm light for a gentle night light, red to keep your night vision while stargazing, or any colour for a party, a video call or a selfie light. Go full screen, keep the screen awake, or use the slow blink and SOS signal in an emergency.

How to use your screen as a light

  1. Pick a colour: White, Warm, Red, Green, Blue, Pink, or any colour from the picker.
  2. Move the Brightness slider to suit the room.
  3. Tap the light (or Full screen light) to fill the whole screen; tap again to close.
  4. Choose Slow blink or SOS if you need a signal.

Good to know

  • Red light keeps your eyes adjusted to the dark: good for stargazing and checking on a sleeping baby.
  • For video calls, put a laptop or tablet with a white or warm screen behind your camera to light your face evenly.
  • Keep screen on asks the browser not to dim the screen while the page is open; it works in most modern browsers.

Questions

Is it as bright as my phone’s real flashlight?

No. A screen gives a soft, wide light, which is nicer for faces, reading and night lights, but it will not light up a dark road like the LED flash on the back of your phone. For the most light, turn your screen brightness to maximum.

Is the blinking safe for people with photosensitive epilepsy?

The slow blink flashes once a second and SOS uses the standard Morse rhythm, both well below the three-flashes-a-second limit used in accessibility guidelines. Even so, if flashing light affects you, use the steady light only.

Does it drain my battery?

A full-brightness white screen uses more battery than normal use, so close the page when you are done. Warm and red light at lower brightness use less.

Is my data private?

Yes. Everything happens inside your own browser: nothing you type or choose is uploaded to us or anyone else.

Is it free?

Completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many times you use it. Light ads keep the site running.
