Good to know

  • Put numbers in your points: “cut month-end closing from 6 days to 3” says more than “improved closing”.
  • Copy a few key words from the job advert into your skills; many companies filter resumes by keywords.
  • Use a simple email address based on your name.
  • Save a PDF for each job you apply to, named like Asha-Verma-Resume.pdf.

Questions

Which layout should I choose?

Classic is the safest for government jobs, banks and online application systems that read resumes automatically. Modern has a coloured side column and suits creative and private-sector roles. Compact fits more on one page when you have a lot of experience.

How long should a resume be?

One page for freshers and up to about five years of experience; two pages for senior roles. Recruiters usually skim a resume in under a minute, so keep each point short and start it with an action word like “Prepared”, “Led” or “Reduced”.

Should I add a photo, date of birth or religion?

In most countries, including the US and UK, leave them out: they are not needed and can lead to bias. Some employers in India and the Gulf still ask for a photo; add one only when the job advert asks for it.

Why does the Word file look simpler?

Word handles complex layouts differently from browsers, so the Word download always uses the Classic layout, which opens cleanly in Word, Google Docs and LibreOffice. For the exact look you see here, use Print and choose “Save as PDF”.

Is my data private?

Yes. Everything happens inside your own browser: nothing you type or choose is uploaded to us or anyone else.

Is it free?

Completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many times you use it. Light ads keep the site running.
