Private Diary Online: Password-Protected Journal Encrypted on Your Device

A diary is only private if nobody else can open it. Here, every entry is encrypted on your own device with a key made from your password before it is saved, using the same strong encryption (AES-256) that banks and messaging apps rely on. There is no account, no server and no copy anywhere else. Write about your day, add a mood, search old entries, and lock it with one tap.

How to keep a private diary

  1. Choose a password (at least 6 characters) and, if you like, a hint only you will understand.
  2. Write your entry, pick a mood and press Save entry. It is encrypted and saved at once.
  3. Tap an entry to read it, ✎ to edit or ✕ to delete. Use search to find old days.
  4. Press Lock now when you are done. The diary also locks itself after 10 minutes without use.

Good to know

  • Write the password down and keep it safe. If it is forgotten, the entries cannot be opened by anyone, including us.
  • Backups made with the Backup button stay encrypted, so they are safe in Google Drive or email.
  • To read your diary on another device, restore the backup there and unlock it with the same password.
  • “Download as text” makes an unencrypted copy: only use it on a device you trust.

Questions

How strong is the encryption?

Entries are encrypted with AES-256-GCM. The key is made from your password with PBKDF2 (SHA-256, 250,000 rounds) and a random salt, so guessing passwords is very slow. A long, unusual password makes it stronger still.

Can you reset my password?

No, and that is the point. We never see your password or your entries, so there is nothing we could reset. Without the password the diary cannot be opened.

Where is it saved?

Only in this browser on this device, as encrypted data. Nothing is uploaded. Clearing browser data deletes it, so keep an encrypted backup.

Is my data private?

Yes. Everything happens inside your own browser: nothing you type or choose is uploaded to us or anyone else.

Is it free?

Completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many times you use it. Light ads keep the site running.
