How accurate are the full and new moon times?
They are calculated with the astronomical method of Jean Meeus and are accurate to within a few minutes.
Why does the moon look reversed in Australia?
From the southern hemisphere the moon appears upside down compared with the north, so the lit side is on the other side. Tick the southern hemisphere box to see it as you would.
Is this the same as the Islamic or Hindu calendar?
Not exactly. Those calendars begin months from a sighting of the new crescent or from local rules, often a day or two after the astronomical new moon shown here.
