A bright, simple way for young children to learn the English alphabet. Every letter from A to Z has a big capital and small letter, a picture word (A is for Apple, B is for Ball…) and is read aloud by your device. Press Play all to hear the whole alphabet, switch the tiles to small letters, and when your child is ready, try the quiz: listen to a letter or look at a picture and tap the right answer.
loading toolHow to learn the alphabet with your child
- Tap any letter tile to see its picture and hear it.
- Use ◀ and ▶ to go through the letters, or press Play all to hear A to Z.
- Switch to “abc” to practise small letters.
- Open Quiz: listen or look, then tap the right letter. Ten questions make one round.
Good to know
- Little and often works best: five minutes a day beats one long session.
- Say the letter together after the device, and point to the same letter in a book or on a sign.
- Once the sounds are familiar, move on to the phonics tool to blend letters into words.
Questions
Why is there no sound?
Sounds use the speech voices built into your phone or computer. Turn the volume up and check silent mode. If one language stays silent, your device has no voice for it yet: on Android add it in Settings → Text-to-speech, on iPhone in Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices, on Windows in Settings → Time & language → Speech.
What age is this for?
Most children enjoy it from about 2½ to 6 years old. Toddlers like tapping and listening; older children can do the quiz on their own.
Why is X for fox?
Very few everyday words start with X, and the ones that do (like xylophone) begin with a “z” sound, which confuses early readers. Fox shows the real “ks” sound of X, at the end of the word.
Is it safe for children?
Yes. There is no chat, no sign-up and nothing to buy inside the activity. Nothing a child taps or types is sent anywhere. Like the rest of the site it shows a few ads around the page (never inside the activity), so younger children are best supervised.
Is my data private?
Yes. Everything happens inside your own browser: nothing you type or choose is uploaded to us or anyone else.
Is it free?
Completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many times you use it. Light ads keep the site running.
