JSON Validator: Find the Exact Line of a JSON Error (and Fix It)

Find out in a second why your JSON will not load. The validator points to the exact line and column, explains the problem in plain words (a missing comma, a trailing comma, single quotes, a comment) and can repair the most common mistakes for you.

How to use the json validator

  1. Paste your code or text.
  2. The result and any errors appear as you type.
  3. Copy or download the result.

Good to know

  • JSON has no comments. If you need notes in a config file, consider JSON5 or YAML.
  • Numbers cannot start with 0 (write 7, not 07) and text must use straight double quotes "…".

Questions

Why does my JSON fail when it looks fine?

The usual causes are a comma after the last item, single quotes instead of double quotes, keys without quotes, comments, or Python words like True and None. JSON allows none of these.

What does “Fix common mistakes” change?

It removes comments and trailing commas, turns single quotes into double quotes and adds quotes around keys, then formats the result. It never guesses missing data, so check the result.

Is my data private?

Yes. Everything happens inside your own browser: nothing you type or choose is uploaded to us or anyone else.

Is it free?

Completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many times you use it. Light ads keep the site running.
