How to look up a status code

  1. Type a status code or a word in the search box.
  2. Or tap 2xx, 3xx, 4xx or 5xx to see one group.
  3. Read the meaning, or copy the code and name.

Good to know

  • For a moved page, use 301 so you keep your Google ranking.
  • Seeing 429? You are sending too many requests: wait and retry more slowly.

Questions

What is the difference between 301 and 302?

301 says the page moved for good, so search engines pass its ranking to the new address. 302 is temporary, so the old address keeps its place in search.

Is a 4xx or 5xx error my fault?

4xx codes mean the request was wrong (bad address, not signed in, not allowed). 5xx codes mean the server failed, and only the site owner can fix them.

Why do I see 520–524 errors?

They come from Cloudflare, not the official standard. They mean Cloudflare could not get a good answer from the website’s own server.

Is my data private?

Yes. Everything happens inside your own browser: nothing you type or choose is uploaded to us or anyone else.

Is it free?

Completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many times you use it. Light ads keep the site running.
