How to create .htaccess redirects

  1. Put one redirect per line: the old address, a space, then the new address.
  2. Choose 301 or 302 and any extra rules (https, www, 404 page).
  3. Download the file and upload it as .htaccess to your site’s main folder.

Good to know

  • You can paste full old addresses: the domain is removed for you.
  • Test redirects in a private window, because browsers remember 301s.

Questions

Which servers use .htaccess?

Apache and LiteSpeed, used by most cPanel and shared hosting. Nginx, Blogger, Wix and Shopify do not read .htaccess; they have their own redirect settings.

301 or 302?

Use 301 when the move is permanent so search engines transfer the ranking. Use 302 only for short, temporary moves.

My site broke after uploading. What now?

Upload your old .htaccess again (keep a copy first) or rename the new one. A 500 error usually means a rule your server does not allow.

Is my data private?

Yes. Everything happens inside your own browser: nothing you type or choose is uploaded to us or anyone else.

Is it free?

Completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many times you use it. Light ads keep the site running.
