Make sure a download is complete and has not been tampered with. Choose a file (an ISO, an app installer, a backup, a video) and see its MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-512 and CRC32 checksums in seconds. Paste the checksum shown on the website and the tool tells you at once whether it matches, without the file ever leaving your device.
loading toolHow to check a file’s checksum
- Choose one or more files (or drag them in).
- Wait a moment while the checksums are worked out.
- Paste the published checksum into “Compare with” to see if it matches.
- Copy any checksum with its Copy button.
Good to know
- Upper or lower case does not matter when comparing checksums.
- You can paste a whole line like
SHA256: 3a7b…; the tool finds the checksum inside it. - To hash a piece of text instead of a file, use the Hash Generator.
Questions
Which checksum should I use?
Use SHA-256 when the website offers it: it is the modern standard. MD5 and SHA-1 still catch accidental damage but are no longer safe against deliberate tampering. CRC32 is used inside ZIP files and by some game and ROM sites.
What if the checksum does not match?
The file is different from the one the publisher made: the download may be incomplete or corrupt, or someone changed it. Delete it and download it again from the official site.
Is my file uploaded?
No. The file is read by your own browser and never leaves your device, so it is safe to use with private documents. It also works offline once the page has loaded.
Is there a size limit?
Files up to about 2 GB work in most browsers; the whole file is read into memory, so very large files need a computer with enough free RAM.
Is my data private?
Yes. Everything happens inside your own browser: nothing you type or choose is uploaded to us or anyone else.
Is it free?
Completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many times you use it. Light ads keep the site running.
