Questions
How do banks calculate RD interest?
Most Indian banks add interest every quarter. Each monthly instalment earns interest for the months it stays in the account, so the first instalment earns for the whole period and the last for one month. The calculator adds up every instalment this way, matching bank RD tables closely.
Why is my bank’s figure a few rupees different?
Banks round at each quarter, count exact days for some deposits, and treat short periods slightly differently. Expect differences of a few rupees, not more.
Is FD interest taxable?
Yes, it is added to your income and taxed at your slab rate. In India banks deduct TDS when your interest in a year crosses the limit in the current Budget (higher for senior citizens), unless you give Form 15G or 15H when eligible.
