Photos from phones often carry hidden details: the exact GPS spot where they were taken (your home, your child’s school), the phone model and the date and time. Anyone who gets the original file can read them. See everything a photo contains, then remove just the location or every hidden detail. For JPG and PNG the picture itself is copied without re-compressing, so quality does not change.
loading toolHow to see and remove photo metadata
- Choose a photo to see its hidden details, including a map link if it has a location.
- Press Remove location (keeps camera details) or Remove all metadata.
- Download the cleaned copy and share that instead of the original.
Good to know
- Turn off location for the camera app in your phone settings to stop it being recorded at all.
Questions
Do WhatsApp and Instagram remove the location?
Most social apps strip it from the copy they show, but files sent “as document”, by email, Bluetooth or cloud links keep everything. Clean photos yourself when in doubt.
Will removing metadata turn my photo sideways?
No. The tool keeps the small “which way up” note so the photo still shows the right way round.
Can it clean iPhone HEIC photos?
It can show their details. To get a clean copy, convert them with our HEIC to JPG tool: the JPGs it makes carry no metadata at all.
Is my data private?
Yes. Everything happens inside your own browser: nothing you type or choose is uploaded to us or anyone else.
Is it free?
Completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many times you use it. Light ads keep the site running.
