Phone videos are huge: a one-minute 4K clip can be over 300 MB, too big for WhatsApp, email or a job portal. Choose how much to compress, or type the size you need in MB, and pick a lower resolution if the video will be watched on phones. The video is re-encoded to an efficient MP4 by ffmpeg running inside your browser.
loading toolHow to compress a video
- Choose a video.
- Pick By quality or To a size, and the resolution.
- Press Compress video, wait, and download the smaller MP4.
Good to know
- Lowering the resolution saves far more space than strong compression at full size.
- Untick “Keep the sound” for silent clips to save a little more.
Questions
Why does the first conversion take longer?
The video engine (ffmpeg, about 31 MB) downloads once when you start the first job; your browser keeps it for next time. After that, only your own device does the work: nothing is uploaded.
What settings are best for WhatsApp?
Choose 720p and Balanced, or “To a size” with 16 MB. WhatsApp re-compresses big videos anyway, so sending a smaller file first keeps you in control of quality.
Why does it take a while?
Compressing means redrawing every frame. A minute of HD video can take a few minutes on a phone; a computer is faster. Keep the tab open until it finishes.
Is there a file size limit?
Everything happens in your browser’s memory, so very large files (over about 1 GB) may not fit, especially on phones. Trim or compress long recordings first; a computer handles bigger files than a phone.
Is my data private?
Yes. Everything happens inside your own browser: nothing you type or choose is uploaded to us or anyone else.
Is it free?
Completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many times you use it. Light ads keep the site running.
