Job portals, college forms and email often refuse PDFs above 1 or 2 MB. This compressor works inside your browser: the light level re-packs the file and keeps text selectable, while the strong levels redraw each page as a crisp JPEG at screen resolution, which can cut scanned and photo-heavy PDFs by 70–90%. Your document never leaves your phone or computer.
loading toolHow to compress a PDF
- Choose the PDF you want to shrink.
- Pick Light, Strong or Smallest.
- Press Compress PDF, check the new size, and download.
Good to know
- For a strict limit such as 100 KB, try Smallest, then split the PDF if it is still too big.
- Compress a copy you will send, and keep the original for printing.
Questions
Which level should I choose?
Light for PDFs made in Word or Google Docs (mostly text): it keeps the text sharp and searchable. Strong for scans, phone photos of documents and brochures. Smallest when a form demands a tiny file, such as under 200 KB.
Why did my file not get smaller?
A PDF made of plain text and fonts is already compact, and turning its pages into pictures would make it bigger. The tool tells you when that happens instead of giving you a worse file.
Can I still copy text after strong compression?
No. Strong and Smallest turn each page into a picture. If you need searchable text again, run the result through our Make Scanned PDF Searchable (OCR) tool.
My PDF says it is password-protected. What now?
If you know the password, open it with our Remove PDF Password tool first, then come back. We cannot (and will not) break passwords you do not have.
Is my data private?
Yes. Everything happens inside your own browser: nothing you type or choose is uploaded to us or anyone else.
Is it free?
Completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many times you use it. Light ads keep the site running.
