Character Limit Checker: X, Instagram, LinkedIn, SMS and SEO

Write once, check everywhere. Paste a post, caption, bio, title or SMS and see at a glance whether it fits X (Twitter), Threads, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, Pinterest, WhatsApp, SMS, a Google title or a meta description. Each limit shows how much is used and how much is left, with a red bar when you go over.

  • Platforms change their limits from time to time; the list is reviewed regularly.

Questions

Why does X count my text differently?

X counts each letter of most scripts (English, Hindi, Arabic and so on) as 1, but each emoji and each Chinese, Japanese or Korean character as 2, and every link as 23 however long it is. This tool counts the same way.

Why is my SMS split into several messages?

One SMS holds 160 plain characters. Add a single emoji or a non-Latin letter (like ₹ or Hindi) and the whole message switches to a format that holds only 70. Long messages are sent in parts of 153 (or 67), and each part may be charged separately.

What is the right length for a meta description?

Google usually shows about 150–160 characters on desktop and fewer on mobile. Put the most important words first.

Is my data private?

Yes. Everything happens inside your own browser: nothing you type or choose is uploaded to us or anyone else.

Is it free?

Completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many times you use it. Light ads keep the site running.
