For when easy riddles are too easy. These teasers include a famous probability surprise (the birthday puzzle), the prize-behind-the-door dilemma, a bookworm that eats less than you think, painted cubes, clock-hand overlaps, sequences, anagrams and picture-word rebus puzzles. Most are our own and the rest are classics retold in our own words. Every teaser has a hint that points at the key insight and an explanation that shows why the answer is right, so you come away knowing the trick.

Questions
Where do the riddles come from?
We wrote them ourselves for this site, with their hints and explanations. You will not find this exact set anywhere else, and new ones are added from time to time.
How hard are they?
Harder than our other riddles: aimed at older teenagers and adults. Some need a little maths (fractions, probability); others need only careful reading.
What is a rebus puzzle?
A picture or layout of words that stands for a phrase, like STAND written over I, which means “I understand”.
How does the answer check work?
Type your answer in your own words. Small differences do not matter: capital letters, “a” or “the”, plurals, spaces and punctuation are ignored, and many answers accept more than one wording. If you are sure you are right but it says no, press Answer to compare.
